How syncing touches your broker account
Prop firms monitor how accounts are accessed, and you deserve to know exactly what connects to your account before you link anything. Here is precisely how each of our three sync methods works, including the one place where caution is warranted.
File import
Never touches your broker- You export a statement from your platform (MT5 HTML, CSV, or XLSX) and upload it to us.
- Nothing connects to the trading server. No logins, no passwords, no sessions.
- Works for every platform: MT4/5, cTrader, TradeLocker, DXtrade, MatchTrader.
For prop-firm accounts: Zero footprint on your account. If your firm is strict or unclear about third-party tools, this is the method to use.
cTrader auto-sync
Official Spotware API- You approve access through cTrader ID (OAuth), the same way you sign into an app with Google.
- We never see or store a password, and no trading terminal logs into the server on your behalf.
- Real-time Foresight reads use the same official API stream.
For prop-firm accounts: This is the officially supported integration path built by Spotware. There is no terminal session and no device fingerprint to match.
MetaTrader auto-sync
Read-only cloud terminal sessions- You give us the investor (read-only) password. It cannot place, modify, or close trades, ever.
- A cloud data service (MetaApi) logs into the trading server from its datacenter, not from your device, briefly once a day plus any manual refreshes.
- If you enable real-time Foresight on the account, that connection stays live around the clock while enabled.
For prop-firm accounts: Those sessions come from shared datacenter infrastructure that many trading tools use. Some prop firms fingerprint terminal sessions as "devices", and a shared fingerprint can be misread as account sharing. Read-only journal access is industry standard and most firms allow it, but check your firm's policy first, and for real-time Foresight on a prop account, get written permission before enabling it.
Our recommendation for prop traders
- If your firm offers cTrader, trade on cTrader and connect it here. You get auto-sync and real-time Foresight over the official API with nothing to worry about.
- On MetaTrader, ask your firm in writing whether read-only analytics access via the investor password is permitted, and keep the reply. Most firms say yes.
- Never connect an account that is not registered to you. Firms treat third-party access to another user's account as a violation, even read-only.
- When in doubt, use file import. You lose nothing but convenience, and your Hindsight Report and Insight work exactly the same.
